UNC-Chapel Hill Correctional Education – Teach With Us

Requirements:

  • Must be a PhD student or faculty member at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

On-Site Classes:

  • In person at the following locations: North Carolina Correctional Institute for Women (NCCIW), Johnston Correctional Institution, Orange Correctional Center, Warren Correctional Institution, Dan River Prison Work Farm, Granville (Polk) Correctional Institution.
  • Instructors are hired/re-hired each semester.
  • Instructors teach 3-hour sessions, twice a week for a total of 7.5 weeks.
  • Class sizes vary depending on the course being offered and the population of the facility.

Self-Paced Correspondence:

  • Year-round with a contract beginning July 1 through June 31 of the next year.
  • Student work is graded online using Canvas.
  • A two week turnaround is required when student work is submitted online.
  • There are about 30 active students for each course.
  • Courses include: HIST128, PSYC101, SOCI101, ENGL100, ENGL128, SPAN101, MATH10, MATH110, COMM120, BIOL101.
