William and Ida Friday Fund for Lifelong Learning

The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education is named in honor of two North Carolinians who devoted their lives to enhancing and improving the lives of their fellow citizens through their work in education, the arts, and public health. During the 1989 Center groundbreaking, UNC President William Friday stated that “The Center is the citizens’ classroom. Day by day I hope it will draw hundreds of North Carolinians to this place for learning, for the experience of self-discovery and for the renewal of the spirit of Chapel Hill.” The William and Ida Friday Fund for Lifelong Learning is an unrestricted fund designed to make the Fridays’ hope a reality.

Friday Adult Learner Scholarship Fund

Each semester, the Friday Adult Learner Scholarship awards $750 to three part-time, degree-seeking, undergraduate students studying at UNC-Chapel Hill. The scholarship is named for former UNC President Bill Friday, who strove to make a University education available to all citizens of North Carolina. Funding for the scholarship comes from donor contributions.

Nanette V. Mengel Program Development Fund

The Mengel Fund is an endowed fund that supports the creation and development of new courses and enrichment programs.

Correctional Education Discretionary Fund

This fund helps expand the access and opportunities for UNC-Chapel Hill instructors to teach inmates across North Carolina through on-site and distance courses.

To send in a gift by mail, make your check or money order payable to UNC-Chapel Hill and write either “Friday Adult Learner Scholarship Fund” or “William and Ida Friday Fund for Lifelong Learning” in the memo section of your check. Mail it to:
