Supporting North Carolina’s Caregivers: Insights, Initiatives, and Future Directions
October 24 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recognize caregiving as a significant public health issue that impacts the quality of life for millions of Americans and individuals worldwide. This session will explore the diverse experiences of caregivers in North Carolina across various health contexts. Drawing from a listening session study and additional research on caregiving for adults and individuals with disabilities, we will examine the latest developments in federal and state policy, highlight initiatives designed to recognize and support caregivers and discuss potential policy recommendations in collaboration with the North Carolina Serious Illness Coalition and the North Carolina Caregiving Collaborative. Whether you are currently a caregiver or maybe in the future, this session offers valuable insights and resources to guide your caregiving journey.
Dr. Erin Kent, an Associate Professor and Associate Chair for Research in Health Policy and Management at the UNC-Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, will lead the discussion. As a full member of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and a Health Services Research Fellow at the Cecil G. Sheps Center, Dr. Kent is dedicated to developing supportive care interventions, conducting policy-informing research, and promoting a more equitable culture of care in long-term care settings through collaboration with researchers, practitioners, students, and clinicians at UNC and beyond. This event is free and open to the public.
